Address Book syncing now works!!! I'm happy. 7.0.2 definitely is a lot nicer looking. Will have to play around with it some more today.
And Sametime!! They added Sametime!
I never thought I would say this, but thanks IBM...you finally made the Mac version of Notes livable. I'm as excited as I could be about something Notes related :)

thanks for continuing to screw us 3gS owners over Apple...
My phone is on its last leg, dropping calls all of the time, have to charge it 3 times a day. If I had known this, I would have already bought a 4...

nice! what speed are you running at now? still 4.4 ghz?
4.5 now. Higher than that it starts to become less and less efficient. I can run at full load at minimal increased heat and power consumption over the stock 3.8 turbo. 4.6 and up on this chip starts to require more juice.

Ok, so it seems the developer has kick up a bit of furore on this one.. ;)
Personally, I don't mind paying the 1.79 again to buy Tweetie 2 - at the end of the day it hardly breaks the bank. I'm not disgusted by it because he needs to keep making money somehow. (Although it looks like this developer may now be quite well off, judging by its ranking in the Top Grossing list ;))
But I do get this underwhelming feeling when I use Tweeite 2 - as it seems others do - and I think this stems from a few things:
1) In some ways, the new app is not 'better' than the first Tweetie - the UI is not so nice (an opinion), the speed is not so silky smooth (less of an opinion, bit more fact) and it doesn't even seem to do everything that Tweetie 1 did. In fact, I'm struggling to see - for my uses at least - what this version achieves that the first one didn't. And the implementation is not so nice either. What is the 'killer app' in version 2?
2) The idea that it was built from the ground up again. As the developer puts it - "I didn't just add a feature and change the version number. That's lame." Problem is, Tweetie 1 did not have any flaws or shortcomings in its implementation and was silky smooth and fast, at least for me. Tweetie 2 doesn't quite deliver that, which is why I'm left disappointed.
3) Tweetie 1 had 'wow' factor, Tweetie 2 doesn't.
4) The new icon is horrible (a matter of opinion, of course ;))
5) In deleting the first app from the store, Tweetie 1 has been end of life'd. Therefore, this version effectively stifles any upgrades to version 1, including any potential bug fixes.
6) The new version is underwhelming (did I say that already? :D)
Of course, one advantage of declaring Tweetie 2 as a whole new app is that it does give me the freedom to 'downgrade' back to Tweetie 1!!! I know which version of the app will be sitting on my iPhone's front page...

Usually, I get pretty excited about new technologies and standards, but this just isn't doing it for me...
I've finally resigned myself to having a mirror set of hard drives for backup. Storing to removable media is too hard to organize, requires too many discs, and the optical discs don't have a life span long enough to make me comfortable. With the information density of BluRay I'm sure the recordables are going to have lousy longevity. I'll stick with live copies that I can keep testing the checksums on.
So, for me they're nothing more than a distribution method for high-def video and the fun has even been taken out of that by all the DRM shackles they've wrapped around it. I wonder how many people are really going to throw out their whole home entertainment system just to be able to play BR discs. If the recordable discs are $50, I'm sure discs with content will be at least that much-- and I can't back up this expensive, fragile data? I've got enough $12 DVDs I can't watch on my Mac because they've gotten scratched. Can't watch it on any computer I chose? Can't rip it to my iPod?
(come to think of it, $50 recordable media is probably all the DRM they need... Who's going to make an illegal copy when the blank media costs more than a DVD player?)
And doesn't the DRM phone home?!?
Nah. I'll wait. Hopefully by the time the media price has gotten low enough to make it worth it I'll have found myself with the equipment to actually view them and some Scandinavian kid will have cracked the encryption.

That's not what my point is about. Did I argue that iPhone 4 isn't the top selling phone? It is.
But iOS is slipping and every time people starts saying wait for iPhone #, then iOS will gain again. iPhone # is released, it doesn't happen, people start talking about iPhone #+1.
Quality over Quantity. I'm sure Ford outsells BMW, but BMW is obviously the better choice.

So since there is no answer to my earlier question, I take it that the posters who take issue with the tracking have not bothered to correct the issue on their phone and desktop, which would seem like they care more about posting complaints than being tracked.

Wonder if they run Windows Server 2000.
That is one butt load of memory. Wonder what Amazon needs?
I'm sure the base will be ESXi with some flavor of Linux virtualized for the front end.
It's storage not memory :)

I have a black iPhone 4 but I think I may wait until the iPhone 5 hits and pickup a white iPhone 4 for $99 as a collectors item. I don't think I'm going to get the iPhone 5 because I have a policy to only buy a new iPhone every other year and I doubt the iPhone 6 will have the same design. I really, really like the look of the iPhone 4 and I always thought the white one was the better looking one that's why I want one in my collection.

Does anyone out there know how to change the system Fonts on Lotus Notes for Mac?
Yes... there's an application availabe on the Notes website that allows you to change the font size. It's called Notes Preference Editor.
And yes, Notes is much more than just a handicapped email system. It's also a handicapped calendaring system, a handicapped database, a handicapped information distribution system, etc.
And PGP isn't that simple to set up on a per-user basis (unless something has changed drastically in the last 3 years since I last looked at PGP?), and if a corporation has 40,000 users on email, that's a ******** of PGP setups to make. Beyond that.. your work email isn't your property. ;)

Wow. Some of the most exciting non-"Apple product release" news in months, and it happens while I'm too busy with real work to keep up with the boards. Figures.
At any rate, congrats to all the new Mods (and even the mod mini :)). Excellent picks all the way around. It'll be nice to have the broader online coverage that overseas Mods will bring.
edesignuk, while I'll miss some of your more "entertaining" postings, even a toned down you is quite a bit of personality. Of course, now I won't have a chance to laugh at the "free iPod" morons in the morning, as you will have Wasted them before I get on. Small price.
bousozoku, Nermal, and WinterMute are all great choices. I have enjoyed their advice, wisdom, humor and observations in the few months I've been on MR. I have no doubt they will serve as great Mods.
There, that ought to be enough brown-nosing to start. Now, to go online and order four of those fancy massaging chair inserts....

Does anyone have any experience/recommendations for binding a NAS to Open Directory for user/group authentication? A number of NAS will authenicate to Active Directory, but apparently OS X Server's Windows support is well below par to support this. QNAP have a firmware update expected July/August which will inbclude wider LDAP support, but is there anything that will work now?

This is really funny. Hello, I would like to introduce myself. I'm the infamous seller! :) How are you guys. It's funny that most people here are laughing about the stupidity of others like myself.
But anyway, this is in no way illegal. I would know, being a student of law. In addition, eBay AND PayPal have sided with me on this matter MULTIPLE times. The only time PayPal sided with the buyer was when they claimed they never got it and I had no shipping proof. The item is accurately described, end of story. Stop crying about it and be more responsible.
Just an ending note, I've made over $2,000 doing this before and used it to buy two amazing Les Pauls. ;)
You are not a student of law. Or if you are, you are the most stupid student of law in existence. What you have been doing is fraud, plain and simple. The definition of fraud is: To make someone else believe something that is not true, and to make them hand over their property because of this wrong believe. You made someone believe that they were bidding for an iPhone and to hand over money, when this was not true. Fraud.
Which means if anyone follows through with criminal action against you, your dream of ever being a lawyer is over. Good strategy giving up a lucrative career for $2,000 in scammed monies.

I know it's a pain, but if you sit through the .mac seminar at an apple store, they offer it to both new and existing customers for $69. That's what I've done for the past two years.
